RSF drone strike kills 5 civilians west of Khartoum, rights group says

KHARTOUM — Five civilians were killed in a drone strike carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting a civilian vehicle west of the Sudanese capital, according to a statement by Emergency Lawyers on Saturday. The group said the attack struck a car on Jumu’iyyah Road in southern rural Omdurman as it was traveling from the Sheikh al-Siddiq area in White Nile state, killing all five passengers on board.Emergency Lawyers said the incident reflects a continued pattern of attacks on civilians in public areas, worsening the humanitarian situation and increasing risks to civilian life. The group held the RSF fully responsible for the strike, describing it as a violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits targeting civilians and requires their protection during armed conflict.Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023 between the army and the RSF, a war that has killed tens of thousands, displaced around 13 million people, and pushed parts of the country toward famine. The rights group called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and urged measures to ensure protection of public roads and residential areas.KHARTOUM — Five civilians were killed in a drone strike carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting a civilian vehicle west of the Sudanese capital, according to a statement by Emergency Lawyers on Saturday. The rights group called for an immediate halt to attacks on civilians and urged measures to ensure protection of public roads and residential areas.
