LONDON — Leaders of the United Kingdom, France and Germany said Sunday they are prepared to take “necessary and proportionate defensive measures” to protect their interests and allies in the Middle East following the indiscriminate Iranian missile attacks across the region. In a joint statement, the leaders of the three countries — known as the E3 group — said Iran’s “reckless attacks” endanger both military personnel and civilians.“We call on Iran to stop these reckless attacks immediately. We will take steps to defend our interests and those of our allies in the region, potentially through enabling necessary and proportionate defensive action to destroy Iran’s capability to fire missiles and drones at their source,” the statement said. The leaders added that they have agreed to work closely with the United States and regional allies to address the escalating situation.Regional tensions intensified Saturday after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, killing several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.LONDON — Leaders of the United Kingdom, France and Germany said Sunday they are prepared to take “necessary and proportionate defensive measures” to protect their interests and allies in the Middle East following the indiscriminate Iranian missile attacks across the region. In a joint statement, the leaders of the three countries — known as the E3 group — said Iran’s “reckless attacks” endanger both military personnel and civilians.“We call on Iran to stop these reckless attacks immediately.
